This trip lets you experience some of the most beautiful scenery that you are ever likely to see. Visit ethnic minority villages to learn about the life styles of their inhabitants including an overnight stay with Khmu hosts. You are welcome to extend this trip for an extra day to visit the historical Pak Ou Cave and sample some of the local fire water at the village where it is produced.
Day1. Nong Khiaw – Ban Nong Kham – Ban Houy Pang.
We depart from our office then head down to the river where our guide will give you basic paddle instruction and a kayaking safety talk for about 20 minutes. We then practice our skills by paddling down the river, along the way you will see a few signs of civilization and stunning cliffs. A picnic lunch is prepared on a white sandbank set in beautiful scenery. After a relaxing break and swim, we will then visit Ban Nong Kham (weaving village) in the late afternoon we will arrive at Ban Houy Pang (Khmu village) where and you will learn about Khmu culture with your hosts in the village, for the night.

Day2. Ban Houy Pang – Ban HouyLeuang.
After breakfast, we get back to our paddling again down the river, today the scenery of Nam Ou gets more and more dramatic with limestone cliffs bordering the river. Along the way you will experience local people who are fishing and gold panning on the river banks. The afternoon is spent in calmer waters, as the villagers become more numerous, a lot of vegetable gardens can be seen on the banks, we will spend the night at Ban Houy Leuang.

Day3. Ban Houy Leuang – Pak Ou Cave – Luang Prabang
After an over-night in the village, it takes about 3 hours to reach the Buddha caves. At the confluence of Nam Ou and the Mekong Rivers lie the highly venerated caves which are filled with hundreds of Buddha statues. The afternoon is spent paddling further down the Mekong to Ban Xang Hai, this village produces “Lao Lao” (Laos whisky) of course, you should try some. From here we will return by our transport back to Luang Prabang

This one is for those of you who enjoy spending time in the water and like a bit of adventure! With overnight stays in several ethnic minority villages this is an excellent way to immerse yourself in the country and meet the locals. For those of you with more stamina try an extra day!
Day 1. Nong Khiaw – Ban Viengkham – Ban Thavanh
The day starts off with a road trip of over an hour to the kayaking starting point at Ban Viengkham. You will receive some basic paddling instruction and practice before heading off downstream. We paddle downstream through a steep sided valley where the river banks are covered with a beautiful forest. We continue down the river and enjoy ourselves with some fun rapids until lunch time when we stop for lunch at a scenic spot on the river side. After enjoying a Lao style picnic lunch on the riverbank, taking some time to relax and a refreshing swim, we then head off downstream again through some villages. The next stretch of paddling has a section of rapids which are between class 1-2 depending on the time of the year before approaching Ban Thavanh, where we stay overnight.

Day 2. Ban Thavanh – Ban Sop Chack
After enjoying a leisurely breakfast, we head off downstream again, as we carry on downstream some beautiful views of the forest are revealed before we reach a section of fun rapids, class 1-3, which are suitable for beginner to intermediate levels. Along the way you will see a few signs of civilization and stunning cliffs. A picnic lunch is prepared on the riverbank set in beautiful scenery. After a relaxing break and a swim, we then continue the paddle downstream on the scenic Nam Xang River with more nice limestone cliffs and beautiful landscape before reaching Ban Sop Chack, where we stay overnight.
Approximately: 4-5 hours kayaking
Day 3. Ban Sop Chack – Ban Hat Houy.
Following breakfast, we begin our journey on the river where we encounter rapids of grade 1-3 which are suitable for beginners to intermediate level, for approximately 3 hours, then stop for a Lao style local picnic lunch which is prepared for us in the most scenic of locations. After lunch we take a relaxing break to enjoy swimming and cliff jumping into a deeper section of the river. In the afternoon we continue on down the river along the way we might see the locals as they go about their daily tasks, such as, fishing and planting vegetables on the banks until arriving in Ban Hat Houy (Khmu hill tribe), where a pick up will be waiting to transfer us to Luang Prabang.

Day 4. Ban Hat Houy – Ban Peiar – Luang Prabang.
After enjoying our overnight stay at the village and having breakfast we carry on downriver, as we continue paddling, for about 2-3 hours, the scenery of the Nam Xuang gets more dramatic and beautiful with impressive limestone cliffs. After lunch we continue onwards until arriving at the next section of rapids. These rapids are between grade 2-3 which are suitable for beginners to intermediate (during the wet season) before approaching Ban Peiar, where we transfer you back to Luang Prabang.
