Luang Prabang Heritage Site Explorer

XiengthongThis 5 day tour allows you to see the best that Luang Prabang and the surrounding area has to offer, such as, historical temples and a stunning waterfall before taking a cruise up the Mekong River to explore an ancient cave. Next you will head to the mysterious and enchanting Plain of Jars. You may also extend this tour to 7 days, which includes a visit to the scenic Vang Vieng and a guided tour around the capital city of Vientiane.

 

Day 1. Arrival in Luang Prabang.

 

Welcome to Laos, our guide will meet you at the airport. We then transfer to your hotel and you are free to relax or let our guides introduce you to the world heritage site of Luang Prabang, including a visit to the world famous night market in the center of Luang Prabang.

 

Day 2. Royal palace – Vat Xiengthong – Vat Mai – Vat Visoun – Ban Xang Kong – Kuang Xi waterfall.

 

The first half of the day is spent visiting the museum at the former Royal Palace and the monasteries of Vat Xieng Thong, Vat Mai and Vat Visoun. After enjoying lunch at a restaurant we head to the nearby traditional Por Sa paper making village of Ban Xang Kong before we head up to visit scenic Kuang Xi Waterfall which is surrounded with turquoise blue pools and is an ideal place for swimming! You can also visit the bear conversation center. Back in Luang Prabang we will visit Wat Phousi to enjoy the rewarding view of the city in the late afternoon.

 

Day 3. Luang Prabang – Xang Kong – Xang Hai – Pak Ou Cave.

 

We catch a traditional slow boat trip up the Mekong river to visit a weaving village (Ban Xang Kong) and a whiskey making village (Ban Xang Hai) before approaching the famous Pak Ou cave, which remains a popular pilgrimage site for Lao people, who ceremonially wash the Buddha statues during the Lao new year festival. Overnight stay at a hotel in Luang Prabang.

 

Day 4. Luang Prabang – Xieng Kouang.

 

After breakfast, we make our way over the mountains to Xieng Kouang, the place is well-known that for its historic plain of jars. Along the way we stop at Ban Houy Hereh to enjoy the beautiful view, visit a Hmong tribe (Ban Khewtaloun), experience herbal products at Ban Houystaep and explore a Buddha cave before approaching  Xieng Kouang.

 

Day 5. Xieng Kouang- Plain of jars.

 

Following breakfast, we drive to visit the plain of jars sites 1, 2 and 3. Along the way we stop at some nearby villages in the areas to find out more about the still unclear history of the archaeological stone jars which date back to about 1800 years ago. In the afternoon, we then continue driving for around one more hour to visit Muang Khoun which is the old capital of Xieng Kouang, in this area we will see some ruins left over from the war. Overnight stay at a hotel.

 

Day 6. Transfer to the airport for flight departure and end of services or Extension for our full 7 days join in offer

 

Day 6. Xieng Kouang – Vang Vieng.

 

After enjoying breakfast, we transfer from Xieng Kouang to Vang Vieng, along the way you will see beautiful landscapes and amazing mountains, in the afternoon we cycle to explore the town or some caves and see the great karst mountain scenery. Overnight stay at a hotel.

 

Day 7. Vang Vieng – Vientiane.

 

After breakfast we continue the excursion by minivan again to Vientiane (The capital of Laos) for around 4 hours. Today we take some time to discover the most important attractions in the town, such as Patuxay (A national monument), Pha That Luang (the biggest stupa in Laos), Hophakeo (emerald Buddha statue’s hall) and numerous other monasteries. Stay overnight in Vientiane.

 

Day 8. Hotel – Airport.

 

Breakfast, then you are free until the time of your transfer to the airport for your next destination.
