Prabang – Ban Xang Khong – Ban Xang Hai – Pak Ou Cave.
We leave at 9:00AM from our office and embark upon our boat cruise upstream first we get a glimpse of rural life along the river with a stop at Ban Xang Khong (the handmade Sa paper is produced here). Before we arrive at Pak Ou we visit another village, Ban Xang Hai, which has for centuries made the clay jars used to ferment rice wine and Lao-Lao whisky, be sure to try just a little. After that we continue our cruise on the Mekong until reaching the beautiful Pak Ou Cave, (with lunch at a nearby restaurant) Pak Ou Cave remains a popular pilgrimage site for Laos people who ceremonially wash the Buddha statues during the Laos New Year. We take time to explore the lower and upper caves before we head back down the river to Luang Prabang.
Approximately: 4 hour boat cruise / 2 hours walking.
